Week 1, Day 4

GOOD MORNING.

I hope that you are all having a great beginning to the first week of the course!

REMINDERS & DEADLINES  

1. Be sure you have completed week 1 assignments by Tuesday, September 2nd at 11:55PM
2. You will not be able to view Week 1 assignments until you have completed the “Getting Started Lesson” and take the Academic Integrity quiz. You must do this as soon as you gain access to the course.
3. Review the weekly checklist to ensure that you are completing/submitting all the required assignments.
4. Don’t forget to comment on the number of posts of classmates.

SHOUT OUT! To D’Angelo, Amanda, Taneisha, Jalen, Gissel, Nicholas, Kourtney, Saija, Dalton, Kierra, Nicole, Kirsten, Casen & Cody who has already started the course. I’ve learned that they have a desire to improve their leadership skills, would love to travel abroad and that there is a story behind the origin of one of these students name. Have you ever taken an online course before? If you have, you understand all the advantages to online learning: accessibility, flexibility, college preparation, student -teacher communication, and student-student communication. Each of the following lessons demonstrates some of the many advantages to taking an online course. If you are new to online learning, you are in for a real treat! Week 1, Day 3

WEEK 1  DAY 1  WELCOME

 I'm your instructor for Leadership Development this semester. This is a great course, and we'll not only explore what leadership is but also how you can develop as a leader! Don't worry if you've never taken an online course before--soon you'll be navigating with ease. 

This announcement includes important information -- PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE TEXT.

Where to Start:

Today, you need to read all of the weekly announcements -- just scroll down.  Then click on the "NCVPS Getting Started" button. Complete the academic integrity quiz right away--it's only one question. The getting started link may reference a quiz for that module, but we don't use that. BUT YOU MUST complete the academic  integrity quiz in this module-it is REQUIRED--YOU CANNOT PROCEED to unit one until you complete it. Once you have finished this module, click on the "syllabus" tab and work through each of the sections. A very important section of the syllabus is "Student Frequently Asked Questions." Make sure to read those as they will help you understand assignments, how they are graded, and how the course works. You can always reference back to the syllabus anytime during the course by clicking on the button below.  Then you can begin Week 1 under the Week 1 tab below.  

The lessons are organized in weeks in order to keep you focused.  Three weeks of lessons will be open at a time -- the previous, current, and next week.  During each week, you will have 3 types of assignments:  Electronic Portfolio assignments, Discussion Forum assignments, and Journal assignments.  Discussion Forum and Journal assignments will be posted to a shared forum so that you can reply to and learn from your peers.  You will post individual assignments to a private forum called an electronic portfolio. This is an online notebook that only you and I will access. I will be sending you instructions on how to submit all types of assignments later this week. There are also video instructions for how to submit assignments in the student handbook tab.

How to Be Successful:

There are three time management documents in the course that are especially important.

A. The due dates calendar tells you when each week begins and ends and when that week's assignments are due. Our weeks start on Tuesdays and end on Mondays.There is a link below for due dates. 

B. The weekly checklists link (same button as due dates) gives you a list for each week for your assignments. As you complete the assignment, you check it off. I recommend that you print both of these out.

C. The daily task log helps you keep track of what you do each day. It's useful so that tomorrow when you get into the course you remember the last thing you did today. It's a great time management tool. Print it out and keep it close to your computer or in your notebook. You'll find it in the syllabus.

D. Check out the student handbook. It has information to help you.
